Carolina Marín was close to reaching her second Olympic final in her career. The champion of Rio was confidently leading against He Bing Jiao in the semifinals when the injury occurred.
Since then, the Spanish player has traveled back to Madrid, where she was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Her coach had already commented earlier, but today Marín also shared her feelings about that dramatic day.
„On Sunday, I experienced one of the hardest moments of my life. A few days have passed, but it will take more time for me to fully process it. I believe life puts us in situations we don’t want to face, and no one deserves them, but we have to accept them and handle them as best as we can,” wrote the three-time world champion on her social media.
Her rivals and the badminton community have stood by Marín as one, but the message that touched her heart the most came from He Bing Jiao. The Chinese player wore a pin with the Spanish flag on the podium after the final. In her post, Marín hinted at her comeback, which will undoubtedly be difficult, but she has already recovered from two very serious injuries in the past.
