Christian Adinata was injured during the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters in the spring of 2023 and has since been practically sidelined. In 2024, he attempted a comeback, but his body could not handle the increased strain.
The medical staff of the Indonesian national team had previously advised against surgery, but after a year, they concluded that intervention would be necessary. Nearly a year of Adinata’s career was lost to recovery, and following surgery in July, he had to restart rehabilitation from scratch.
The 23 years old badminton player will no longer enjoy the support of the Indonesian federation, as he was left out of the national team during the squad announcement in December. This means that he will have to finance his return on his own, despite previously being assured that the federation would stand by him until he fully recovered. Understandably, Adinata was deeply disappointed and expressed his feelings on social media.

Naturally, fellow players responded, with many showing support for Adinata. Among them were former national teammates like Ginting, Christie, Alwi Farhan, and Chico Wardoyo, as well as India’s Prannoy, who is also rooting for the former SEA Games gold medalist. Incidentally, it was during a match against Prannoy that the injury occurred, and the experienced Indian displayed exceptional sportsmanship even back then.
Viktor Axelsen came forward with a significant offer, inviting the young Indonesian to Dubai, where the Danish star trains for competitions.
The Indonesian federation also underwent substantial changes at the end of the year, including in the coaching staff. Key figures such as Herry Iman Pierngadi, Irwansyah, Aryono Miranat, and Harry Hartono have departed, and the team is starting the 2025 season and new Olympic cycle with an almost entirely new staff.
Following his departure, the legendary Herry Iman Pierngadi has already been linked with the Malaysian national team, where, according to reports, the 62-year-old expert would be warmly welcomed.
